Six years old today …

Scary, that’s what that is … It’s all the fault of the Puzzle Doctor and Mrs P, who six years ago provided such good examples of delivering accessible and enjoyable crime fiction blogs that I had to give it a go too … I’m glad to say that they are both still hard at it while other blogs (and sadly, even some bloggers), are no longer with us. I am now having to slow down as I reach middle age, which is a shame – but happens to the best of us! But I regret nothing and have made a lot of new friends through Fedora and that has been incredibly rewarding, so thanks so much for stopping by. I hope to continue for a little bit longer.

Rather than dwell on the past – which this blog does on a rather regular basis, let’s face it – here beneath you will find a quick look at some of the books and movies I hope to review in the near future (the first will be The Getaway, in about a week), a mixture of old and new, well-known and obscure … just the way I like it! I hope you do too …

Congratulations and well done, Sergio! I, for one, am a better blogger and reader because of your fine blog. Keep up the fine quality!

  2. tracybham says:

Six Years, that is an accomplishment. Happy Bloggiversary, and I hope you keep blogging as long as you enjoy it. You know I have learned a lot from your posts, on films and crime fiction novels and lists of favorites. I look forward to reviews on those books above. Especially THE GETAWAY and SS-GB (because both are on my shelves to read).

    • Thanks Tracy – time is always the enemy here but I hope to be around for a bit longer, even if a bit less often. Really looking forward to to posting on SS-GB, in anticipation of the screening of the 5-part BBC miniseries, which is due on our screens fairly soon.

      • tracybham says:

Oh no, that means I need to read that book soon, because the miniseries will eventually get here and we will want to see it. Glen has already read it, a few years back. That could work out well, since I recently read THE MAN IN THE HIGH CASTLE.

  3. Paula Carr says:

    Congratulations, Sergio!

I never knew “The Getaway” was based on a Jim Thompson novel…I learned something new! Have you seen either of movies made based on it?

    • I have seen both of those Paula and will be reviewing both of them along with the novel (and the Tarantino movie that reference it too …). Hope you enjoy the post, which I am publishing in 8 days 🙂

  4. realthog says:

    Congrats!

I am now having to slow down as I reach middle age

    A pretty limp excuse . . . 🙂

  5. Sergio – Here’s to six and six more! – Thanks for the photo list. A few are new to me. There are great old ones, too – Thompson, Greene, McBain. And I need to see “Il Giorno Della Civetta.” Italian crime films of the 1960s and 1970s are a favorite genre. And this one stars Claudia Cardinale. Yeah, definitely have to see it.

    • Thanks Elgin – Leonardo Sciascia’s Civetta (aka Day of the Owl) is an important book about the mafia that still resonates and, for once, the movie doesn’t let it down. Thanks for the good wishes and sticking around. Back to blogging in a week or so …

  6. Colin says:

Happy blog birthday, my friend. I trust Oz left you suitably refreshed and, from those teasers you posted, prepped for another round of film/book gab and seeing where the chats meander.
And enough already with the middle-age stuff, I’m not far behind you on that score and still consider myself in my prime! 🙂

  7. neeru says:

Congrats Sergio. And here’s to many more years to come…

  8. le0pard13 says:

Congrats on your blog’s anniversary, Sergio. Well done, and I look forward on your thoughts on Thompson’s The Getaway and Ms. Faust’s The Money Shot. Every so often, I run into Christa at local book events and she’s always a blast to talk to.

    • Thanks Michael – I bet she is. I haven’t come across anything new from her in a little while actually and thought it was time I reviewed this very distinctive novel in terms of its setting if nothing else 😉

  9. Jose Ignacio says:

Congratulations Sergio! Hope you’re not serious about slowing down.

    • Thanks Jose Ignacio – I’m afraid the slowdown is unavoidable but I hope to be able to at least keep posting, even if at a slower rate. Life, sometimes is just is what it is … Again, thanks so much for the support.

  10. Welcome back, Sergio, and congratulations on your blog anniversary! You’ve got some great review books lined up for us to read. Best wishes for 2017!

  11. Congratulations, Sergio – we mus get round to doing a joint post again sometime. Maybe Patrick Butler, but if memory serves, I’m not sure who’s going to defend it…

  12. JJ says:

Aaah, it’s wonderful how this works: other people inspire you to start blogging, you in turn are part of my motivation for getting into it, it’s the ciiiirrrrrrcle of liiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiife…

Congrats on six years, dude, and on keeping such a varied and interesting approach in what you do. Really looking forward to your Demon of Dartmoor and threefold Getaway posts — you’ll probably be aware I’m something of a massive fan of both authors. But, that can wait. Have a day off on us, and then get back to it!

  13. Mike says:

Congratulations Sergio! No mean feat to keep it going for six years, and some great looking titles lined up for this year, especially THE GETAWAY. I bought a set of Jim Thompson novels some time ago and worked through them at a breathless pace. Hard-boiled plus one for me 🙂

    • Thanks very much Mike – I enjoy blogging but really it’s all about the conversation and the friends you make. Thanks, as ever. And yes, Thompson was at his best a genius – a sick and twisted one, but brilliant.

  14. Congrats and well done! That’s quite an achievement! Looking forward to your thoughts on The Ministry of Fear – I loved it!

  15. MarinaSofia says:

Happy blog birthday, Sergio! And keep up the good reviewing, even if you feel like you are slowing down.

  16. Congrats Sergio, 6 years is very impressive! Happy bloggiversary, and hoping to say this again in another 6 years!

  17. Thanks for providing all of the good reading – it’s certainly kept me amused and influenced my book choices.

I’m looking forward to your review of Patrick Butler. I just started Below Suspicion this morning and don’t yet see why everyone hates it. So far PB has been pretty amusing.

  18. Peter S says:

Do you happen to know who did the cover art for The Getaway? The style looks very familiar, looks like Mitchell Hooks might be the artist?

  19. Bev Hankins says:

Congratulations, dear Sergio! You’ve done well these six years and I enjoy your blog immensely. Here’s to six more (and beyond!)…

  20. Happy 6th Birhtday! And so glad to have you back blogging after your time away. Reading and following your blog for a number of years, alongside side many other sin this community inspired me to finally start my own too! Thanks for the inspiration! Keep up the good work!

  21. Congratulations Sergio, and happy blogiversary! Look forward to those upcoming posts.

  22. TomCat says:

Sorry for the late response, Sergio, but I was away these past few days. Anyway, congratulations on your sixth year of blogging and here is to many, many more!

  23. HAPPY BLOG-O-VERSARY, Sergio! What would we do without you? You were missed when you went walkabout recently – (but I saw your pix on Facebook – you look like you were having a great time with family) so WELCOME BACK. Some of those books you’re getting ready to talk about look mighty interesting. I’ve only read a couple, so we’ll see what new authors you can sway me to read.
Six years? It seems like six months. 🙂

    • Thanks Yvette. you’re too good! Yes, I had a wonderful, relaxing time. My nieces however will be posting a couple fo reviews here shortly, so all is not lost Down Under … 🙂

  24. John says:

Doesn’t it fell good to be loved and missed? Don’t let it all go to your head. ;^) Happy Sixth! O Pretty Sinister Books has a sixth year coming up, too (this Thursday, in fact), but I stopped counting and publicizing the “blog-o-versary” just as I stopped counting and paying attention to my real birthdays ages ago. Looking forward to several of those reviews, especially the Joan Fleming and the Helen Nielsen books. Money Shot is a surprise. You’ve not covered porn and crime before, have you? That’ll shake up your regular readers. I really enjoyed that book. Wonder whatever happened to Christa Faust — she’s a real original, I think.

    • Thanks for that chum – nice to be back though the anniversary caught me by surprise. The Faust is purely on your reccomendation but was so long ago I dare say you have forgotten (sic).

  25. Anne H says:

Congratulations on the blogoversary! I’m looking forward to the Patrick Butler review, being a Carr fan from way way back. This one is decidedly lighter than Below Suspicion and a worry to anyone with a feminist bone in their body! I’m also reading through Joan Fleming again, and finally found a copy of Dr Dedcert a few months ago.

  26. Anne H says:

She’s very variable, The Deeds of Doctor Deadcert is one of her best. No Bones About It is another goodie.

  27. vinnieh says:

Six years is an epic achievement. You should be proud of yourself.
